M.HSc. in History and Civilization

The Master of Human Sciences in History and Civilization is designed to produce graduates in the field of History and Civilization who are well-acquainted with major trends in world history, imbued with Islamic perspectives and have the ability to conduct research independently. The programme adopts a balanced analytical survey of the general history of the world with special emphasis on Muslim history and civilization.

The Master of Human Sciences in History and Civilization requires two years of full time study or four years on a part time basis. Students can either choose the coursework and research or coursework only. The department offers courses in the areas of Islamic Civilization, Modern Muslim World and Asian history.

Entry Requirements

  1. A relevant Bachelor’s degree with good grade from IIUM or any other accredited institutions of higher learning, or other certificates that are recognized as equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree or relevant professional qualifications and experience that are recognized by the Senate of the University.
  1. Applicants are required to obtain the following Arabic and English proficiency levels:

                 IELTS - Band 6

Note: Students are required to provide evidence of English proficiency by submitting their proficiency certificates before the beginning of the programme. If they fail to do so, they will be required to sit for the IIUM-administered English Placement Test (EPT).
